Binge-watched too much Netflix over the weekend and think you are coming down with a cold? You can now head to hundreds of general practitioner (GP) clinics that will be reactivated as Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPCs) to get it looked at.
From today, 18th Feb, these PHPCs will provide special subsidies for Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents who have respiratory illnesses. They only need to pay a flat subsidised rate of $10 for their consultation and treatment. For older folks, those who fall within the Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation will only pay S$5.
And trust us, it’s #legit
Why do all this?
This is a proactive step by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a bid to better detect the onset of COVID-19 symptoms and clam down on community spread. Just recently, MOH has also asked doctors to provide 5-day medical certificates (MCs) for patients with respiratory symptoms so they can recover at home.
The National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) has observed that a “significant number” of Singapore’s COVID-19 cases had mild symptoms in the initial phase of infection. And during this period of mild symptoms, there are still infectious so the best way of containment is reduced/no contact with others to prevent infecting others.
So please see a doctor if you are sick, wear your mask and remember that personal hygiene is important.

P.S. Don’t chao keng ah!
